When sizing and selecting a pump through catalog search, it is necessary to have a rated design point which consists of a flow rate and total head with the option of a static head. The rated design point is located on the “Criteria” page and appears as shown in Figure 1:
Figure 1: Rated Design Point
With PUMP-FLO® Connect, users have the option of specifying additional operating points and system resistance curves to be displayed in the pump’s graph windows. This includes operating points with different static and total heads, or even with different flows. Data inserted in the operating points interface is entirely up to the user. While these points are not used as criteria for pump selection, the standard warning messages will apply if these points are outside of the pump’s limits.
In order to enter additional operating points, users must start with clicking on the “Advanced Criteria” link. This will open the newly formatted Advanced Criteria dialog box as shown in Figure 2:
Figure 2: Advanced Criteria dialog
Once the Flow, Head and Static Head are specified for an additional operating point under “Operating Points” click the “Add” button. The operating points in this list can be deleted if the user desires. As shown in Figure 3, this can be done for multiple operating points.
Figure 3: Advanced Criteria dialog with Additional Operating Points
When the user has finished setting the operating points and any other advanced criteria the program will search the catalog and create a pump selection list.
From the selection list, clicking on one of the pumps opens up the graph window as shown below in Figure 4:
Figure 4: Pump Graph Window with All Operating Points and Resistance Curves
The graph in Figure 4 displays the rated design point (large red marker) and the additional operating points (small red markers) as well as the auto-generated system resistance curve (black SRC) and the additional system resistance curves (blue SRCs).
Additional features allow the user to display system resistance curves or turn them off by modifying the graph settings. To do this, click the “Modify” button to open the Customize Graph Display Options dialog shown in Figure 5.

In the Optional Curves section, the Auto Generated SRC box and Other SRC’s box are checked by default. If the user chooses to turn off the additional SRC curves, it’s simply a matter of unchecking the Other SRC’s box, and clicking the OK button. The graph window then displays the additional operating points, but without the SRC curves drawn through them.

Although there is no limit to the number of operating points that a user may enter, there is a practical limit to the number which are visually distinct. This feature is set to be rolled out with the 1.7 release of PUMP-FLO™ Connect and will also be available through Web Services.
